Il contributo presenta l’edizione critica di una questione (la seconda del Prologo) – dedicata alla qualità speculativa o pratica della teologia – del Commento alle Sentenze del maestro francescano inglese Roberto di Halifax. Unica sua opera che si conosca a essere giunta fino a noi, il suo Commento alle Sentenze è rivelativo di alcune tendenze filosofiche e teologiche che sono andate affermandosi nel corso del secolo xiv. Anche il Prologo non si discosta troppo dall’attenzione da lui rivolta al tema della volontà umana, tra i più dibattuti dai suoi contemporanei.

Cet article présente l’édition critique d’une question (la deuxième du Prologue), consacrée au statut pratique ou spéculatif de la théologie, du Commentaire sur les Sentences du maître franciscain anglais Robert d’Halifax, seule œuvre connue d’Halifax qui nous soit parvenue. Il révèle certaines approches philosophiques et théologiques apparues au xive siècle. Dans le Prologue, Halifax porte une attention particulière à la question de la volonté humaine, un sujet largement débattu par ses contemporains.

This paper provides a critical edition of a question (the second one of the Prologue) – devoted to the practical or speculative nature of theology – of the Commentary on the Sentences by the English Franciscan Master Robert of Halifax. The Commentary on the Sentences is the only known work by Halifax that has survived. It reveals some of the philosophical and theological tendencies that arose in the 14th century. In line with the other questions in this Commentary, the Prologue also reflects Halifax’s focus on the human will, a topic widely debated by his contemporaries.
