Artist’s mapping, Paris and French Indochina. Being in resistance in a viewpoint and artistic practice

My work presents an artistic and activist viewpoint on past and present situations of inequalities in France. I scrutinize my paternal family history — my father was born in French Indochina. I observe the way the French school system in which I taught visual arts represents the colonial fact. From these observations, I build bridges in my artistic mapping works that express my standpoint. The works that I present below aim to participate in a production of knowledge in dialogue with the social sciences, and aim to open up alternative and converging perspectives as well. A direction that is necessary to build a history of art descended from its “Western gaze”, and nourished by theories/perspectives from the South.
