FRANMOBE is a French program developed by the Service de coopération éducative et linguistique (Educational and linguistic cooperation department) of the French Embassy in Brazil, with the support of the Agence universitaire de la francophonie (AUF) (Francophone University Agency) in Latin America, and in partnership with Campus France Brazil and local and regional institutions of higher education. In the first part of this article, we situate the FRANMOBE program in the context of its emergence, in terms of the issues that motivated its creation, and in relation to its design process, an “action research” type of program integrating teaching, teacher training, and research. In the second part of this article, we present the didactic originality of the FRANMOBE course by focusing on what differentiates it most from the types of courses generally used to prepare FFL students (French as a Foreign Language) for professional life (FOS courses, “Français sur Objectifs Spécifiques”; French for Specific Purposes) or for university studies in French (FOU courses, “Français sur Objectifs Universitaires”; French for University Purposes).
