The comparative study between two systems that produce murderous radicalizations—the Khmer Rouge of the past and the so-called Islamic State of the present—shows that the psychological mechanisms used are the same. They are based on the mobilization and instrumentalization of the following factors: local and global geopolitical contexts, political lies, myths related to a state foundation, political emotions, the making of man-systems, the recruitment of children and adolescents, and traumatic initiations to murderous violence. Both systems, the Khmer Rouge and the so-called Islamic State, constitute a sacrificial theopathy.
