Deaths without social existence?

For the gypsies of Morote and San Juan, death implies the implementation of a series of actions aimed at removing the deceased from the world of the living. All the past social life of the dead must be erased. No material and/or memorial support that belonged to the deceased should survive among the living, otherwise the dead would be retained. Therefore, the body must be buried in its entirety. Relatives, for whom forgetting is impossible and who are therefore likely to try to keep them or follow them, must observe the rules of mourning as well as possible. The cemetery, far from everyone and little frequented, becomes the only place where the pain of the loss of a loved one is expressed and, through an abundance of flowers, religious statuettes, crosses, etc., the only place where memory can materialize. It is also in the cemetery that the border between the living and the dead is tenuous and where the dead can circulate. Precautions are therefore made in order that the threshold of the world of the dead is not crossed.
