Unbelief and deception: Reflections upon Segalen, des Forêts and Puech

The impostor is an inverted figure of the novelist, whose fictional powers he frames in a mise en abyme. However the game gets more complicated when the relationship to credulity and incredulity comes to the core of the narrative. Thus, I see the novelistic at the brim of the récit within the dissociation between credulity and incredulity, when the novelistic comes out of the novel while maintaining itself within this critical space. I then propose readings of Segalen’s René Leys, of Des Forêts’s Bavard, and of Puech’s works according to a reversibility principle, in a swivel between mystification and demystification.
