At the invitation of Jean-Pierre Guiguané, professor of the University of Ougadougou and founder of the Centre for Formation and Research in the Living Arts, the author made his first visit to Central Africa in the spring of 2012 in order to lead a teaching workshop on the Antigone of Sophocles. This initial work resulted in the creation of a contemporary version of the ancient myth fed by this African experience. This account bears witness to the difficulties met with in setting up such projects, and to the riches afforded by such intercultural encounters.
