Language,variation and social integration :about mediation in and around school This article aims above all to expose some of the reasons why it is necessary to develop (in and around school matters) specific actions concerning thephenomenon of variation, so as to facilitate the integration in school and society of bi- and multi-lingual pupils, or of the young users of 'urban speech', whose main function it is to assert their identity. We then propose some examples of mediations that are based on the respect of language diversity and that also counter the dramatization of intra- and inter-linguistic variation.
