Certification for all: A double-edged sword

Par : Type de matériel : TexteTexteLangue : français Détails de publication : 2021. Sujet(s) : Ressources en ligne : Abrégé : In order to promote access to higher education and ensure career stability, various reforms have been undertaken in education and professional training over the past thirty years. Oriented towards the lifelong acquisition of skills, these reforms are part of efforts to enhance employability and professional mobility, and are aimed at individuals who are declared to be “active stakeholders in their own careers,” and who can supposedly navigate freely and dynamically in an uncertain labor market. However, beyond the proclaimed desire to reduce inequalities and promote “the freedom to carve out your own career path,” the incentive to constantly demonstrate one’s professional skills through a vast and diverse patchwork of certifications, products of a very buoyant market, gives cause for concern. Is it a matter of protecting individuals, or it instead a question of holding them accountable for the development of their career paths, thereby justifying the implementation of a new salary model?
