Since 1946, Jamal Al-Banna, who died in 2013, called for a renewal of Islam. He called for a return to Koranic Islam in the face of what he saw as an Islam of clerics and Salafis. Through this, he urged man to think for himself. Indeed, far from limiting himself to only imitating or following, man should engage a part of himself in the understanding of the message. For, Islam, both as a religion and as a community, makes every believer face his responsibility. Only this form of Islam could call for liberation.
