RésuméLa ville nouvelle de Cergy est au cœur de l’écriture d’Annie Ernaux et en particulier de sa vaste autobiographie impersonnelle, Les Années. Cet article s’attache à décrire les préférences urbaines de l’autrice mais aussi sa conception de l’œuvre comme une architecture. Cergy est une ville du périurbain, qui constitue une étape essentielle du parcours de vie de l’autrice et offre un contrepoint à l’intimidante capitale, Paris, mais aussi à la ville de province, Yvetot. Le périurbain, entre la ville et la nature, offre la possibilité de nouveaux lieux emblématiques de l’époque contemporaine, comme le supermarché. Elle constitue enfin un véritable modèle politique, où la mixité sociale constitue une utopie, entre l’intime et le collectif.

The new town of Cergy is central to Annie Ernaux’s writing, particularly her impersonal autobiography, Les Années. This article describes the author’s urban preferences and her conception of the work as architecture. Cergy is a suburban town, which is an essential stage in the author’s life journey and offers a counterpoint to the intimidating capital, Paris, but also to the provincial town of Yvetot. The suburbs, between the city and nature, offer the possibility of new places that are emblematic of the contemporary era, such as the supermarket. Finally, they constitute a political model, where social diversity is an utopia, between the intimate and the collective.
