This paper deals with both the stakes and the means involved in the development of tourism in Tunisia compared to Hungary. Tunisian tourism witnessed spectacular growth during the 1960s as a result of strong interventionism on the part of the State. However, it is currently affected by a lack of profitability and has seen its market share fall. These trends underline the necessity for Tunisia to continue with the reconstruction and leveling process initiated in the mid-1980s, namely the qualitative and quantitative improvement of supply, the encouragement of sustainable tourism, and the introduction of new promotion and marketing methods. Similar challenges have been taken up by Hungary over the past decade thanks to massive resort to foreign direct investment and the development of international cooperation and partnerships between the public and private sectors. The country is now among the world's major destinations and offers diversified, flexible, and quality tourism.
