The theme of wastelands raises serious questions about the reconquest and image of a territory. The atypical case of the former industrial city of Amn?ville in Lorraine provides an opportunity to examine the transformation of a territory into a tourism destination as part of the process of urban and regional renovation. The tourism option chosen for rebuilding Amn?ville is a clear example of a bold bet placed when the decision was made to transform wasteland in an industrial city without the slightest tourist attractiveness. Initially a surrealistic and highly risky project, this economic conversion now looks like an act of hope. In effect, the city of Amn?ville invented its own future. In the context of deindustrialization, empty space can be seen as having strong development potential for its reintroduction into the urban and regional dynamics.
