Facing shifts in its institutions and tighter control from the King, the municipality renewed its practices of producing and conserving official written documents. During this gradual and lasting renewal, Amiens created new solutions, such as a register of statutes. This was coupled with carefully planned and executed innovations in adapting outdated systems to new requirements: for instance, adjusting existing conservation practices to keep the accounts and registers of deliberations, and changing the old cartulary by structuring it into three new ones.
