About one in three people are affected in their lifetime by cancer—a solid tumor or a blood disease—, the rate of occurrence varying depending on the individual. In a first article, we detailed the development of chemotherapies with the discovery of the dosage effect, then the development of autologous stem cell transplantation, which has become the major treatment for aggressive lymphomas and also for myeloma. Now, in this second part, we discuss the biological revolution represented by targeted therapies and immunotherapy.
