Some historians have recently displayed an interest for global history but most of them have partly neglected both its inter-disciplinary nature and the former contributions of other social sciences such as socio-cultural anthropology on its research issues. This paper outlines these contributions and their role in defining the scope of global history. Conversely, it emphasizes the main theoretical and methodological shifts and adjustments that resulted from anthropological practice throughout the 20th century.
