Women’s entrepreneurship between economic necessity and social constraints: The case of Tunisian women entrepreneurs

Par : Type de matériel : TexteTexteLangue : français Détails de publication : 2021. Sujet(s) : Ressources en ligne : Abrégé : The research in women’s entrepreneurship has developed with the recognition of the growing role of women in the economic and social development of countries. The difference of performance observed between developed and developing countries is explained by the degree of adoption of the “gender” approach as well as by the role of the business environment. To understand how Tunisian women establish their companies, we prepared a questionnaire after establishing a theoretical framework to set our research objective in relation to women’s entrepreneurship and the role of the business environment. The results of this survey, conducted on fifty businesswomen in June and July 2019, show that the barriers that they face are linked to gender issues, which makes them work according to necessity rather than opportunity. The sociocultural constraints that impede them are the need to find a balance between family and work, the fear of failure, and the traditional beliefs that had influenced the choice of the type of their projects.
