Are there reliable criteria for predicting the chances of pregnancy in recipients of egg donation? What makes a “good donor”? French multicenter retrospective study conducted by France’s Egg Donation Study Group (Groupe d’études pour le don d’ovocytes, GEDO)

Par : Contributeur(s) : Type de matériel : TexteTexteLangue : français Détails de publication : 2024. Ressources en ligne : Abrégé : With the aim of improving egg donation practices in France, a French multicenter retrospective study was conducted by the Egg Donation Study Group (Groupe d’études pour le don d’ovocytes, GEDO). The purpose of the study was to identify criteria for predicting chances of pregnancy in patients receiving medically assisted reproduction treatment with egg donation. Twelve French egg donation centers retrospectively collected data from 1,186 egg donation cycles carried out between 2019 and 2022. The various characteristics of donors and stimulation cycles were analyzed in terms of the first objective: the rate of achieving at least one pregnancy after an egg donation IVF cycle. The mean age of donors at the time of egg retrieval was 31.5 ± 4.51 years [18–38]; their mean BMI was 23.6 ± 4.10 kg/m2; and 21% of donors were smokers. With regard to ovarian reserve parameters, the mean AMH level was 3.46 ± 2.51 ng/mL, and the mean CFA was 21.4 ± 12.0. The stimulation protocols used were the antagonist protocol for 85% of donors, the agonist protocol for 3.1%, and the progestin protocol (PPOS) for 12%. The protocol was not documented for 15.4% of cycles. 24% of donors had received a prescription for corifollitropin alfa, and 15% of the donors in the study had self-preserved some of the eggs collected. A study of these parameters with regard to achieving at least one pregnancy in the recipients shows that donors aged between 23 and 29 have the best probability of achieving at least one pregnancy in the recipient(s). In multivariate analysis, the main parameter associated with the chances of pregnancy in recipients was the number of mature eggs donated. The number of eggs required to obtain at least one pregnancy was 10.6. Further analysis is required to refine donation strategies with the aim of improving pregnancy rates in recipients.
