Pregnancy bioengineering: Taking the uterus out of the equation?
Type de matériel :
98
The uterus is the specialized female organ that enables a pregnancy to result in a birth. In order to treat or circumvent uterine infertility, various therapeutic strategies are currently used. This review presents and discusses recent advances in the fields of in vitro development of the peri-implantation embryo, biotechnological devices that mimic placental function, and regenerative medicine applied to the uterus. To date, none of the available approaches allows the uterus to be bypassed in order to ensure the development of the embryo from implantation to term outside the maternal body.
