Dans le champ éthique du début de la vie, l’ouvrage La joie de la vie s’inscrit dans la continuité du discours magistériel tout en s’appuyant sur son évolution interne afin d’opérer des déplacements significatifs. Une approche phénoménologique privilégie l’expérience du don reçu et redonné, dans le cadre d’une anthropologie personnaliste appuyée sur une ontologie relationnelle qui impose des limites à la phénoménologie, lorsque la technique affecte les relations. Cette tension prend le relais de l’articulation malaisée que le magistère a opérée au xxe siècle entre l’anthropologie personnaliste et l’approche déductive issue de la loi naturelle, avec le risque d’absolutiser à son tour le discours phénoménologique. Les auteurs prescrivent au contraire de privilégier l’accompagnement du jugement personnel, tout en honorant la fraternité qui ouvre l’attention aux conditions socio-existentielles de l’action, et de s’exercer à un dialogue ouvert pour affiner le discernement désormais synodal.

With regard to the ethics of the beginning of life, the book The joy of life takes an approach consistent with magisterial discourse while drawing on its internal evolution to make significant adjustments. A phenomenological approach highlights the experience of giving and receiving, within the framework of a personalist anthropology based on a relational ontology that imposes limits on phenomenology when technology affects relationships. This tension takes over from the uneasy articulation that the Magisterium offered in the twentieth century between personalist anthropology and a deductive approach based on natural law, with the risk of absolutising phenomenological discourse. As an alternative, the authors recommend giving priority to personal judgement, while honouring the fraternity that opens our attention to the socio-existential conditions of action, and engaging in open dialogue to refine what is now synodal discernment.
