Contribution of robotics in endometriosis surgery

Laparoscopy has been a revolution in endometriosis surgery, making this approach an indisputable standard. The arrival of robotic surgery in the first decade of the 2000s was a significant technological step forward. Endometriosis surgeons quickly adopted this tool and demonstrated feasibility for all surgeries specific to this pathology. The clinical data today only prove that the robot is not inferior to laparoscopy. Rectal involvement—especially of the lower rectum—, diaphragmatic involvement, and involvement of the sacral roots and the sciatic nerve are particularly constraining for the surgeon and risky for the patient. By extrapolating the advantages of the robot already demonstrated in other specialties, especially in terms of nerve preservation, these forms of complex endometriosis should benefit from this technology and the expertise of the surgeon even more.
