Adolescence is a time of transition from childhood to adulthood. For a teenager who has T1D, there is also a transition in terms of medical care. This medical transition is the passage from pediatric-team care, in which parents participate, to an adult-care team that gradually dispenses with the intervention of the parents. It is part of an ordinary emancipation process common to all adolescents. The prospect of the transition must be made clear from the beginning of adolescence. It is organized in collaboration with the pediatric team and has three phases: preparation, transfer, and follow-up.
