AHT through shaking: The HAS recommendations on diagnosis and prevention
Type de matériel :
16
Abusive head trauma (AHT) most often involves shaking and tends to be done repeatedly. Therefore, for prevention purposes, the diagnosis should be made as soon as possible to avoid recurrence. Recommendations have been established following a rigorous scientific approach. They describe the diagnostic approach to be followed to eliminate differential diagnoses, objectify lesions, and define the final diagnostic criteria to be applied, based on objective data: the lesions and the adult’s version of events. The diagnosis is then ruled out, considered probable, or certain. However, the significant scientific advances in this area are opposed by a few denialists whose unfounded arguments must be denounced. Failing to identify violence hinders prevention, at the expense of the child, their rights, and society.
