Restoration of hormonal function after ovarian tissue transplantation: French legal aspects

Par : Type de matériel : TexteTexteLangue : français Détails de publication : 2024. Ressources en ligne : Abrégé : Since the first birth of a girl following an ovarian tissue transplantation previously frozen in Belgium in 2004, many children have been born using this technique. Given these proven results, ovarian tissue freezing is now a validated fertility preservation technique. It is mainly indicated prior to highly gonadotoxic treatments. As the ovarian follicle is responsible for the reproductive and endocrine functions of the ovary, in around 90% of cases, ovarian tissue transplantation also enables ovarian hormonal function to be restored. This article briefly details the evolution of French legislation on ovarian tissue, which, since the latest bioethics law (2021), has made ovarian tissue transplantation also a possibility when it comes to restoring hormonal ovarian function not linked to any parenthood project.
