Why has one come to the idea that the Christian God would not laugh and would condemn laughter? Even so laughter has had its just place in the dawning Christian tradition. This article examines the place of laughter in pagan culture and the manner in which Clement of Alexandria received this tradition in the Paedagogus to show, starting from the person of Isaac, how laughter, once educated, can manifest the joy of being saved.
