This paper discusses an experiment conducted with groups undergoing management training. The empirical foundation of this text is the observation of the experiences of groups of students at a Brazilian school of management. The researchers’ main goal was to let students form a team, to improve self-knowledge in a group setting, and to address awareness of the difficulties and anxieties that may arise when building a workgroup. The theoretical reference points of this study were Bion’s theory on groups (1972) and Dejours’s concept of an “open chat forum” (l’espace de parole, 1999). The study allowed students and teachers to engage in stressful situations and to share insights in the joint construction of the knowledge, with a critical outlook while seeking to go beyond purely instrumental knowledge.
