For too long a disastrous divorce between theology and spiritual life has affected the Church. The 20th century has largely reversed this tendency and it is in this perspective that the theological endeavour of Louis Bouyer is placed. For the oratorian, theology, by nature contemplative and eucharistic, is a companion to the way of conversion and sanctification of the theologian him/herself as to those addressed. Along this way the Virgin Mary and the saints are a model for the theologian.
