The social sciences agree that Chilean society has undergone a transformation over the last forty years. However, the characteristics of and the reasons for these disruptions are still subjects of controversy. This paper, based on four research projects into the effects of the installation of a new economic and social model, as well as the expansion of the promises and processes of democratization in Chile, attempts to establish the causes of the material and normative structural transformations of Chilean society. Today, Chilean society faces a profound re-articulation of the mechanisms that govern interactions, legitimacy, and social logics. This article discusses the most important diagnoses of the nature of the transformations in Chile. Then, it presents and develops nine theses that explore the most salient characteristics of these transformations in Chilean society.
