This article proposes to discuss the interest and usefulness of setting up a system for the “free realization of genealogical tree” in the framework of pre-adoption interviews. The mediating and projective dimension of this tool is emphasized, especially in regard to the more traditional use of the genogram, whose history is depicted globally. A clinical case study is used to illustrate how the system favors fantasy work and mobilizes the creation of a playspace between reality and imagination for the actors participating in the interview. Finally, this article shows how the “free-realization of genealogical tree” offers, above and beyond its clinical interest, an opportunity for future research .
