In Search of a Manic-Depressive Structure on the TAT.

This study tries to illustrate the manifestations of manic-depressive organisation on the TAT of eight subjects. In order to achieve this, the authors have itemized all the fragments of speech dealing with affect. It appears that manic-depressive speech is marked by a specific type of symbiosis and by a constant search for the continuity between objects and beings in a fantasy of “absolute union”, a phenomenon reminiscent of Bleuler's concept of “syntony”. According to the authors, this description corresponds to an underlying manic-depressive organisation.
