What challenges do pediatricians face when examining newborns?

Par : Contributeur(s) : Type de matériel : TexteTexteLangue : français Détails de publication : 2021. Sujet(s) : Ressources en ligne : Abrégé : The newborn pediatric examination is an event parents look forward to, as it determines the possibility for the family to go home. Its purpose is to detect possible medical problems, but above all to confirm that the baby is healthy. This is the opportunity to share information with parents concerning the observation of the newborn and the baby's skills in a suitable environment. The pediatrician must be available to listen to parents and hear their concerns, answer their questions and convey prevention messages, and ensure good conditions for welcoming the baby at home. He/she especially must be available to interact with the baby, by adapting the tempo of examination to fit the baby’s abilities. When parents are encouraged to support their baby during this pediatric exam, emotions can be shared and expressed. With their vast knowledge of infant development, the pediatrician can explain the baby’s early basic needs. Nursing care, parent–child interactions, emotional sharing, and psychic security, in a suitable physical and sensory environment, are necessary for the harmonious development of the baby.
