This contribution focuses on institutional transitions in social work training and the effects of these changes on trainers’ relationship to their work. It aims to identify the movements but also the tensions, difficulties, and transactions necessary to give (back) a purpose to the activity and to build new professional references between prescribed work, dreamed/realized work, and the reality of training work. Interviews were conducted in four training institutions in the same region. This analysis revealed some of the major issues impacting the world of social work trainers, in the context of changes in the sector. The results help us to understand the changes in identity and the forms of involvement of the actors. They show the need to “work collectively” in order to regain some room for maneuver and carry out one’s mission in a more enlightened and better supported way.
