Soccer has been able to establish its appeal while at the same time acting as a very positive force of integration due to its association of individual talents and teamwork and to the degree of uncertainty characterizing each match. However, the fragility of this construction should not be overlooked. The current trends toward a more defensive game, the increasing number of tournaments, and the unruly behavior of certain supporters call for a permanent process of adaptation of the rules and a better control of their implementation.
