The return of “values”: An obstacle to thought?
Type de matériel :
93
Whether lived out, tested, or declared, values are relative to the activity commitments of individuals in given situations. Indeed, it is within an activity’s scope that the objects of the world, physical, social, symbolic, are appreciated and become meaningful. Without the exercise of an activity, there is no possible substratum for values. There is therefore neither objectivity nor universality of values, except in discourse. Values are necessarily related to subjects and situations. They are neither objects nor concepts; they can only be known if they are experienced.
