Whispers, Cries, and Murmurs: The Inaudible Suffering in Cancer Patients
Type de matériel :

Two approaches clash in medical units treating patients with somatic disorders. One emphasizes the biological body whereas the other emphasizes the imaginary body. The first receives all the benefits of medical care whereas the second often remains inaudible despite being expressed in the form of whispers, cries, and murmurs. The dynamics of such units stifle the call for help and dissolve the quest for identity, and psychic life is lost. Based on their work with cancer patients, the authors of this paper have developed a clinical approach designed to allow, in these places of suffering, the emergence of an “I” that can endure even as physical capacities diminish. This paper emphasizes the capacity to listen and the specific psychotherapeutic techniques the authors’ approach requires.
