The author suggests that the conflict between the wish for satisfaction and the frustration of that wish experienced through an internal idealized object can be amplified. The conflict’s primitive corporal level of expression due to disunity from feelings makes it difficult for it to become integrated, thus it is susceptible to find a way of expression through physical pain.
