Warnings of an Artist and a Humanist: Wassermann and the Rise of Perils in Germany (1897-1934)
Type de matériel :
99
The work of Jakob Wassermann (1873-1934), an internationaly famous novelist, whose figure has fallen today into unfair oblivion, passionately questions the double, Jewish and German, identity. As a friend of Schnitzler’s and Hofmannsthal’s he is deeply rooted in the German language and culture. On the other hand, he fully adheres to the Jewish world, even if he does not share its religious values. Indeed he cannot prevent hatred between the two sides of one same humanity, but one can but be struck by his forceful and lucid warnings.
