27
The aim of this article is to describe how emotions can erupt when the client describes biographical events during normal counseling interactions, and how counselors deal with the situation, bearing in mind the idea that the way that they do so can be crucial for the client-counselor relationship and decisive for the outcome. By identifying markers of emotional expression and investigating the interactional effects in several interview extracts, the analysis reveals the discursive procedures used to manage the emotional reactions that affect the course of the conversation during the career counseling interview.
