In recent decades, management teams in parent companies have intensified the processes of centralizing and managing financial assets in France’s major industrial groups, including in the highly liquid form of accumulated cashflow, whose value is increased over the short term in financial markets. This development has been concomitant with increasing internationalization, as reflected by a rise in foreign direct investment (FDI). FDI is not only the main vector for transferring production abroad, but it also creates significant financial flows within groups, creating profits based on the growth of exchanges of services and activities in “extraterritorial financial centers”.
