Through their ability to mobilize on political issues, football supporters’ groups in Croatia and Serbia can be considered high-profile political actors. However, regardless of their political chants and banners, this article aims to focus on the use of physical violence as a political tool outside of the stadium, against specifically targeted goods and people. Thus, this article will attempt to make those mobilizations comprehensible by linking them both to Croatia’s and Serbia’s respective trajectories since the end of the Croatian War of Independence, and to the relationships between fan leaders and certain political actors.
