Electoral reforms, the key to interpreting political transformations in Moldova

This article analyzes Moldovan electoral legislation since the country’s independence in 1991, along with candidates’ behaviors in interpreting or modifying these laws in pursuit of their own political interests. Despite the formal grounds of election laws, Moldovan political leaders have frequently distorted the significance of democratic elections in order to come to power or maintain their positions in the government.
