Sovietization and de-Sovietization of history in Ukraine

Par : Type de matériel : TexteTexteLangue : français Détails de publication : 2014. Sujet(s) : Ressources en ligne : Abrégé : Ukrainian historiography from the time of the USSR till post-Soviet Ukraine is analyzed through the prism of changes in institutions and methodology. Elements in the historiography of the Ukrainian Republic’s relationship with Russia during the Soviet era take issue with the usual view that the Ukrainian science of history had fallen victim to totalitarianism. In the context of changes at the turn of the 1990s, the academic organization inherited from the Soviet period was maintained while becoming the vector of a new ideological content. A “de-modernization” of history can be observed in Ukraine, owing to the development of a “national Ukrainian narrative.” Post-Soviet Ukrainian historiography has adopted “Western” terminology and theories while switching references from the class struggle to the “national renaissance.
