‪This article looks at women who are converting to teaching. We show that voluntary vocational retraining is not just a job change, but it also has implications for their life course and can be a biographical bifurcation. Like their careers, women’s professional reconversions to education are torn between professional and family life; this tension leads to reorientations that are linked to the working conditions and relationships that women maintain with the company, thus enacting ways to secure their life courses.
