Acteurs politiques de premier plan pour la défense des agriculteurs dans la première moitié xxe siècle, les partis agrariens d’Europe centrale-orientale et scandinave ont dû faire face à des transformations sociétales importantes. Ceux qui ont survécu ont tenté de pallier la disparition de leur électorat par une reconversion idéologique qui a été source d’errances. Dans le même temps, en Europe occidentale, les thématiques agrariennes, autrefois portées par les syndicats agricoles plus que par des formations politiques, ont été récupérées par les partis de droite radicale.

Major actors in the defence of farmers during the first half of the 20th century, the agrarian parties of Central-Eastern Europe and Scandinavia have been confronted with important societal transformations. Those that have survived have attempted to compensate for the loss of their electorate by undergoing an ideological transformation that have led them astray. Meanwhile, in Western Europe, agrarian issues once championed by agricultural unions rather than political parties, have been taken up by radical right-wing parties.
