For over ten years, the Catholic Church has seen the resurgence of centralizing tendencies that are eroding the vitality of episcopal conferences and the dynamism of synods. In view of the current context of cultural pluralism, and given the tension between regionalization and globalization, the author considers regional churches as a suitable response to the challenge of the search by local churches for their identity, and an alternative to Roman centralization
