Without intending to promote a new reading of Émile Durkheim’s work, this article simply aims at contextualizing further the French sociologist’s works so as to revise some of their usual interpretations through the contribution of the anthropology of knowledge and the history of scholarly practices. What is at stake here is the necessity to go deeper into the text in order to bring to light what Durkheim assumed to be important as he was writing and practicing his sociology, namely issues of style, exposition, as well as argumentation.
