This paper, based on a quantitative method, extends the work of the School of competitive dynamics (Smith, Grimm & Gannon, 1992; Baum & Korn, 1996). It measures the impact of the frequency and intensity of competitive movements on performance. Using data and case studies from 100 best professional European football clubs from 1999 to 2009, the research confirms the impact of competitive moves on performance. It extends the previous works by bringing evidence on the fact that the frequency of the strategic movements is negatively correlated to the performance while the intensity is for its part positively related to the obtained results.
