The cooperative weak tie: A continuation of Granovetter’s program

Despite a conceptual vicinity that seems obvious, research on cooperation and networks has grown apart from one another. We propose linking them while considering the mobilization of social ties as a process of engagement in cooperation. The linking of Granovetter’s program about the notion of weak ties and strong ties with Dameron’s dual approach of cooperation makes it possible to distinguish a weak tie that does not cooperate from one that includes cooperative potential. This result presents a challenge for a manager seeking resources in the phase of mobilization of social ties, both within the organization and in other organizations.
