Does student social integration have significant effects on achievement during first degree university studies?

In France, research into the factors of university student achievement has rarely explored the effects of social integration, in contrast to North American works which have highlighted its positive influence on student persistence. This article proposes a (new) definition of this concept applied to the university student population and evaluates their effects on student achievement and performances. Statistical analyses show that involvement in social interaction with peers and the perceived quality of social integration at university promotes academic commitment and can lead some students to achieve more.
