Statistically speaking, teachers’ children in French primary and secondary schools achieve the best results. Can this parent-teacher effect be explained by the use of a specific family-based learning approach? Quantitative studies released by the 1995 DEPP Panel and Insee “Education et famille” 2003 surveys reveal learning practices that differ from those of comparable parents from the same socio-cultural category. Parent-teachers primarily focus on the educational aspects of schooling conditions. They highlight cultural practices that help develop intellectual abilities while supporting children to exercise their independence and accountability in a comfortable but challenging and managed learning environment.
